Authorities in Muskogee County are investigating a shooting involving the Warner police chief Friday evening.
According to the Muskogee County Sheriff Charles Pearson, the Warner Police Chief Terry Thompson was among the officers who responded to a call about a suicidal subject with a gun. There, he found a man armed with a knife, who had already cut himself on the wrist and the stomach.
Thompson followed the man to a bedroom in the home, where a shot was fired. Investigators are working to determine what led to that.
The sheriff said Thompson fired once and hit the man in the thigh. He was taken to an area hospital and is reportedly going to be okay.
Sheriff Pearson said the man is known to have some mental health issues. The sheriff's office is investigating the incident.
