Oklahoma Teen Finds Large Diamond During Dig In Arkansas

A 14-year-old Oklahoma City girl truly hit pay dirt during a trip to Diamonds State Park in Murfreesboro, Arkansas. She unearthed a large canary diamond.

Tana Clymer and her family visited the park on October 19. After digging and sifting through the dirt for about two hours, Tana noticed something on the surface.

"I thought it was a piece of paper or foil from a candy wrapper," she said. "Then, when I touched it, I thought it was a marble. I think God pointed me to it. I was about to sprint to join my family, and God told me to slow down and look. Then, I found the diamond!"

The valuable rock was a 3.85-carat canary diamond. It's about the size of a jellybean. It's value is not known yet.

Tana says she's either going to keep the diamond for a ring, or, depending on how much it's worth, use it to pay for college.

More than 75,000 diamonds have been unearthed at Arkansas's diamond site since the first diamonds found in 1906. The site became a state park in 1972. Whatever diamonds visitors find, they are allowed to keep.
