Federal prosecutors in Missouri have charged a Tulsa physician with using a minor to produce child pornography.
The FBI arrested Dr. Shelby Coleman, 36, at a Springfield hotel on September 28, 2013. The FBI says Coleman is a medical doctor and partner at Tulsa Women's Health Center.
According to a court affidavit, Coleman "communicated with a 16-year-old minor in Laclede County, Missouri" via cell phone texts. Coleman and the minor exchanged sexually explicit text messages including a sexually explicit video of Coleman, according to the FBI agent who made the arrest.
The FBI agent says the teen's father discovered the text messages on September 19 and contacted the Missouri State Highway Patrol, who then notified the FBI.
As the investigation unfolded, a state trooper used the teen's cell phone to assume the identity of the teen.
On September 27, Coleman sent a text setting up a meeting at the Springfield hotel in order to have sex with the teen, according to the FBI.
The affidavit says Coleman arrived at the hotel on September 28 and sent a text to the teen. The FBI and the Missouri State Highway Patrol confronted Coleman in his hotel room and after an interview, arrested him.
According to the FBI, during the interview Coleman admitted to having sex with two 16-year-old boys and a 14-year-old boy in the Tulsa area. He also admitted to having several hundred images depicting children from middle teens to as young as 7 years old posing nude and engaged in sexual acts.
According to the affidavit, he told the FBI agent that he knows he needs help because of his sexual preference.
