Senator Tom Coburn appeared live from Muskogee Sunday morning on CBS's "Face the Nation" with Bob Schieffer, where he discussed the U.S. House of Representative's attempt to defund the Affordable Care Act.
This week, the GOP-led House passed a stopgap funding measure required to keep the government fully running after the Oct. 1 start of the new budget year, adding a provision that would cripple Obamacare.
Senator Coburn said he applauds the effort to point out flaws with the healthcare reform legislation, but he said, though he wishes it were possible, there's no way the bill would possibly pass in the Senate.
"We're not about to shut the government down over the fact that we cannot, only controlling one house of Congress, tell the President that we're not going to fund any portion of this, because we can't do that," Senator Coburn said.
The Republican senator from Oklahoma also discussed the issue of gun control, in the wake of the shooting at the Washington Navy Yard.
