Breastfeeding Moms Meet In Broken Arrow To Do What Comes Naturally

Moms across the world and right here in Green Country tried to break a unique world record to raise awareness about breastfeeding.

More than 100 mothers gathered near 71st and Lynn Lane in Broken Arrow. They all breastfed their children for one minute Saturday morning.

"I didn't think I'd take to it, but it's so natural," said Danielle Walker, one of the mothers who attended the "Big Latch On."

Amy Shackelford said it was the first event she and her son have attended. She came because she is surprised that some people act offended when she breast feeds.

"He gets hungry just like every other baby, and I don't feel like we should have to hide it," she said.

For Marie Wise, it comes down to what's best for baby.

"The most important benefit is that I'm able to nutritionally support my child, and it's the best thing for him," she said.

Moms say it's important the public understands this is completely natural. They're frustrated by the "dirty looks" they get when they say they're just trying to feed their kids.
