County officials are proposing tax to improve Tulsa County's justice system.
Sheriff Stanley Glanz, County Commissioner Karen Keith and a local attorney filed an initiative petition asking for a permanent tax to be put on the November 12, 2013 ballot.
It would build a new juvenile justice center, create a mental health unit at the jail, and add as many as 360 beds.
"It's generally the public that's calling us for help and assistance. Well, we're dialing 911 now. We're calling the public," said Undersheriff Tim Albin.
They need 17,000 signatures by September 10 to put the tax to a vote.
The group says, while tax is new, it wouldn't be any more than the "Four-To-Fix-The-County" tax, which has now expired.
