As thousands of people head downtown for Mayfest, Tulsa police are taking extra steps to keep visitors safe.

Officers say they've increased security this year. Visitors aren't allowed to bring ice chests or backpacks, and if you bring a large bag, be ready to have it searched.

Police say, as you prepare to head out, remember: less is more.

"We like to tell people, if you don't have to carry a purse, don't give anybody an opportunity to commit a crime," said Cpl. Chris Bauer.

Police are encouraging visitors to speak up if they see anything suspicious.
