Drillers Blown Out By San Antonio

The San Antonio Missions struck first on Saturday night and it snowballed from there at ONEOK Field.

The Tulsa Drillers were blown out by San Antonio 13-2 and allowed 15 hits while recording just five of their own on the evening.

The Missions took a 1-0 lead off a Chris Bisson RBI single but it was the third inning where things really got away from the Drillers.

San Antonio reeled off seven runs in the third, all coming with two men already out.

Tulsa showed some signs of life in the bottom of the fourth when a Henry Wrigley solo homer got the Drillers on the board. Angelys Nina followed that up later in the inning with an RBI triple on a line drive to right field to cut the deficit to 8-2.

But San Antonio added two more runs in the sixth and another pair in the seventh to snuff out any realistic chances of a comeback.

Tulsa starter Tim Gustafson lasted just 2.2 innings after giving up eight runs – seven of them earned – and six hits, while walking four batters to finish with a 12.79 ERA.

Reliever Tim Sexton didn't fare much better with a 10.13 ERA in 1.2 innings, allowing five earned runs and five hits.

San Antonio's Matthew Andriese picked up the victory after allowing five hits and two runs in five innings of work on the mound.

Tulsa dropped to 3-6 on the season with the loss, while the Missions improved to 5-4. Tulsa did win the first two games of the three-game set to take the weekend series.

The Drillers remain at home for another three-game set against Corpus Christi starting Monday at 2:05 p.m.
