The brightest minds from the University of Tulsa helped Oklahoma Highway Patrol troopers understand the science of car wrecks Thursday.

What looked like an ordinary T-Bone crash was anything but. TU researchers equipped both cars with sensors and cameras. The data will help the Highway Patrol teach rookie troopers how to reconstruct accident scenes, by drilling down into what happens in the blink of an eye.

"Very rarely do you actually see a crash happen, and so, not only can we see it, we can see it in high detail with all the instrumentation and the video equipment that we have," said mechanical engineering professor Jeremy Daily.

TU engineers put more than $100,000 worth of sensor equipment in the cars.
