Tulsa guard James Woodard and forward D'Andre Wright were selected to the Conference USA All-Freshman Team in a vote by the conference's head coaches and media.
Woodard and Wright were part of a seven-player freshman class that led the Golden Hurricane to a 16-14 overall record and an 8-8 mark in C-USA play. The group of rookies ranks fourth in the country in percentage of team's points scored and points per game.
Woodard, a native of Edmond, Okla., averages 11.9 points, 5.9 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game this season. He scored 9.8 points with 5.0 rebounds in C-USA games. With 346 points, he is the second-leading scoring freshman in TU history, and with 170 rebounds, ranks third among TU freshmen in rebounding. Despite being slowed through seven games late in the season by injury, Woodard ranked third among freshmen in scoring, and led C-USA freshmen in rebounding. He scored in double digits in 20 games, and earned the C-USA Freshman of the Week award four times.
Wright, who hails from Lawton, Okla., averages 8.6 points and 5.0 rebounds in 21 games overall. He scored 9.2 points with 4.8 rebounds in nine C-USA games. Despite missing nine games with an injury, including seven C-USA games, he ranked third among freshmen in rebounding, fourth in scoring, second in blocks (1.2 blks/gm) and ninth in field goal percentage in league contests. Wright was a force in the post before and after his injury, and since playing at near-full health in the last seven games, he has averaged 11.6 points, 5.3 rebounds, 1.1 blocks and shot .596 from the field. He was named C-USA Freshman of the Week twice.
The Golden Hurricane opens the C-USA Championship with a quarterfinal contest against East Carolina at 8:30 p.m. Thursday at the BOK Center.
