The Oklahoma State House of Representatives took action on a federal program, after a 6 Investigates report exposed the waste, fraud and abuse rife within it.

Our investigators showed you how many are taking advantage of the federal Lifeline program, which supplies free cell phones to the needy.

We found homeless people stockpiling phones to sell on the street and companies failing to enforce rules on who's eligible for the free phones.

State lawmakers are demanding better oversight of the program. Legislation requiring better record-keeping won unanimous approval from the State House Wednesday, and now moves on to the Senate.

It also spells out fines for companies that fail to follow the rules.
