The Vinita Police Department has requested assistance from the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation after an officer-involved shooting.

The shooting occurred early Wednesday just west of Vinita in Craig County.

The OSBI says at 3:30 a.m. they were notified of an incident approximately half-mile north of the U.S. Highway 69 and state Highway 66 junction.

The OSBI said two Vinita Police officers and an officer from the Big Cabin Police Department initiated a pursuit with a vehicle. That vehicle traveled down a dead end road.

The driver then turned the vehicle around and drove toward officers, OSBI said.

Officers fired at the suspect. OSBI says the man, who identified himself as Michael O'Mara, 24, of Wichita, Kansas, was taken to a Vinita hospital where he was treated and released for non life-threatening injuries.

Later, OSBI says the investigators discovered that the suspect has lied about his identity. They say is real name is Kenneth Lee Ilderton, 26.

Ilderton was booked into the Craig County jail on a complaint of assault with a deadly weapon and possession of a controlled dangerous substance, as well as criminal impersonation.
