Oral Roberts guard Warren Niles has been named the Southland Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week. It is the third time he has won the award this season.

Niles led the Golden Eagles in scoring with 25 points in wins against both Sam Houston State (75-64) and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (56-51). The senior from Cincinnati, Ohio (Winton Woods H.S.), had nearly half the points in the game in a 56-51 victory over the Islanders on Saturday, scoring the first 14 ORU points of the game. In the two games, he made 16 of 32 shots from the floor, made 8 of 18 from 3-point range and was perfect on 10 free throws. The Golden Eagles now are 16-10 overall their 11-3 record in league play has them in third place, one game behind co-leaders Stephen F. Austin and Northwestern State. This is the fifth time this season an ORU player has been selected player of the week.

Honorable mention this week goes to Southeastern Louisiana senior guard Todd Nelson, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi sophomore guard Johnathan Jordan, Central Arkansas junior guard LaQuentin Miles and Sam Houston State senior guard James Thomas. To receive honorable mention, a player must receive votes from 25 percent of the Southland sports information directors.

Each school's sports information director nominates and votes for the players of the week, though is not permitted to vote for his own player.
