Junior pitcher Aimee Creger tallied 11 strikeouts and junior outfielder Haley Henshaw hit a two-run home run to lead Tulsa to a 4-1 win over No. 25/21 Florida State in the finals of the Unconquered Invitational Sunday at JoAnne Graf Field.
Creger (4-0) allowed just four hits and zero earned runs with three walks to earn the victory for the Golden Hurricane, which moved to 7-3 on the season. FSU starter Monica Perry allowed four runs in 2.1 innings, and took the loss for the Seminoles (7-2).
Henshaw's homer came as part of a three-run first inning for the Hurricane. Senior center fielder Caitlin Everett led off with a base hit down the left field line and scored on a two-out single through the left side by senior designated player Lacey Middlebrooks. Hensahw then launched the first pitch she saw over the center field fence, her second dinger of the weekend.
The Hurricane picked up its fourth run in the third inning, as senior shortstop Samantha Cobb hit a one-out single up the middle to score Everett, who led off the frame with a double to left field.
Florida State scored its run in the second inning when left fielder Morgan Bullock reached on an error with the bases loaded and two out, driving home designated player Kelly Hensley, who had drawn a one-out walk.
Tulsa completed the weekend with a 4-1 record, earning two wins over Florida State, a win over No. 21/25 Hofstra, and a split with Arkansas.
