Search Underway For Missing Boater On Grand Lake

A search is under way on Grand Lake for a missing boater. 

Police began searching for Michael Shane Chapman, 40, from Joplin, Missouri, Monday afternoon, according to GRDA spokesperson Justin Alberty.

Alberty says the man launched a boat from the Elk River Arm of Grand Lake on Sunday and hasn't been seen since.

Family reported the man missing on Monday morning. His unmanned boat showed up at The Bear's Den near Sail Boat Bridge Monday afternoon.

Alberty said rainstorms have delayed the search, but officers have been on the water since daylight Tuesday morning. They are searching the area between just west of Sail Boat Bridge to the East Bay area.

The GRDA is also using its helicopter in the search.

Sail Boat Bridge is located west of Grove.
