Former Oklahoma First Lady Ann Bartlett Dies

Former first lady of Oklahoma and mother of Tulsa's Mayor Dewey Bartlett has died. Ann Bartlett passed away Saturday night, January 26, 2013.

A news release from the City of Tulsa describes Mrs. Bartlett as the "woman behind U.S. Senator and Oklahoma Governor Dewey F. Bartlett, Sr."

"My family just lost the best mother we could have ever hoped to have," Mayor Dewey Bartlett said in the release. "Our family was with her when she passed from this life, and she was at peace."

Ann Smith Bartlett served as an Oklahoma first lady from January 1967 to January 1971. She was from Seattle, Washington, according to the Oklahoma Historical Society. She married Dewey Bartlett Sr. in 1945, and the couple moved to Tulsa in 1946.

Bartlett Sr. also served in the U.S. Senate before his death in 1979. The Bartletts had three children: Dewey, Jr., Michael and Joanie.
