TU Pulls Away From Houston To Earn Win

Scottie Haralson led Tulsa to a big 15-point win over rival Houston Wednesday night.

Scottie Haralson sparked Tulsa's second-half run with 11 straight points and finished with 19 for the game as the Golden Hurricane cruised past Conference USA rival Houston, 87-72,Wednesday evening at Hofheinz Pavilion.

Haralson shot 7-12 from the field, including five 3-pointers, and grabbed seven rebounds to lead five players in double figures for the Golden Hurricane (12-8, 4-2 C-USA). With Tulsa ahead by six-points early in the second half, Haralson made a layup, followed by three consecutive 3-balls to go on an 11-0 run and give the Hurricane a 51-34 lead. TU grew its advantage to 22 points at the 11:57 mark with seven straight points by Brandon Swannegan, and coasted the rest of the way.

Tim Peete matched his career high with 14 points for TU and while James Woodard also chipped in 14 points. Pat Swilling, Jr. tallied 11 points and Kauri Black scored 10 points in the winning effort. Swannegan posted a career-high with nine points and Shaquille Harrison dished a career-high seven assists.

Tulsa shot 51 percent from the field, including 48 percent from long distance as it made 12 3-pointers. The Hurricane also posted a 20-11 assist-to-turnover ratio, and outscored Houston 28-17 off the bench. Tulsa's 87 points, 12 3-pointers and 20 assists all were the most totaled by the Hurricane since the season opener against LSU Shreveport on Nov. 11.

Houston (12-6, 1-4) was led by Joseph Young's 16 points.

The Golden Hurricane returns home to play host to Southern Miss on Saturday in the Donald W. Reynolds Center.
