Wednesday Morning Discussion

Fog and drizzle will be possible this morning with a few passing showers.  Highs will be in the mid-50s today before rain approaches the area this afternoon and tonight. 

I'm running slightly behind inter-office schedule this morning, so I'll keep the discussion on the short side!

Our main upper level system is located well south of the state this morning.  Consequently, only scattered showers will be possible this morning through midday before higher rain chances approach the area this afternoon and tonight.  Some locations may remain dry until late this afternoon.  High temperatures will move into the mid-50s along with gusty northeast winds in the 10 to 25 mph range.  The main upper level low appears to be slowing down slightly this morning but should pick up movement by this evening and clear the area tomorrow midday to early afternoon.  This means our rain chances will be highest tonight through midday Thursday.   Rainfall amounts across northern OK will be relatively light with .50 to near 1 inch in some spots.  Higher totals will be common across the Red River Valley and across the state of Texas. 

Thursday afternoon temperatures will move into the mid or possibly upper 50s along with south winds at 10 mph.  Friday southwest winds will increase in the 15 to 30 mph range and afternoon temperatures may move into the upper 60s near 70.  But these warm Spring like temperatures will quickly erode as a strong cold front approaches the state Saturday morning bringing much colder air to the region this weekend into early next week.  The EURO-GFS is offering various solutions regarding precipitation chances during this time period as the main upper air trough will be hanging back to the west of our area while the surface boundary will be located to our southeast.  This may create an opportunity for some overrunning precipitation to develop behind the boundary as the main upper level trough continues to slowly move eastward.  The temperatures profile would support the threat of wintry precipitation but the confidence is so low for this time period, that we'll make no major mentions for this time period regarding the wintry possibilities.   

The high in Tulsa yesterday was 57 recorded at 3:06pm.  The normal high is 47 and the low is 27. 

Our daily records include a high of 72 from 2002 and a low of 0 from both 1977 and 1944.
