Tulsans Tour Growing Brady District On First Friday Art Crawl Of 2013

Local artists ushered in 2013 with the year's first, First Friday Art Crawl.

Artwork was on display at a few of the restaurants in Tulsa's unique Brady Arts District Friday night.

"We are probably the most eclectic and artistic little three blocks of Tulsa you'll find," said Bob Fleischman.

Fleischman is the Brady Arts District Business Association President.

On the first Friday of every month, the restaurants, specialty shops and art galleries that comprise those three little blocks get a chance to shine.

The art crawl started back in 2007 and it's grown each year, just like the Brady District.

"We started a few restaurants and bars and now that's expanded, as well, but certainly the galleries, News On 6 coming in and Guthrie Green has added a tremendous amount of people coming to the district and enjoying it," Fleischman said.

The cold weather didn't stop art lovers from going from storefront to storefront Friday night. The work of some 20 artists was scattered throughout the district.

The glass blowing studio is one of only a few in the state. There, you're not looking at the art on the wall, but instead watching the artists work their craft.

Out on the street, artists Seth and Rachel Dazey set up shop, selling their jewelry, handmade out of recycled copper.

"It's enjoyable for us to meet people who are buying our stuff, we have regulars that come back and buy stuff like every month," Rachel said.

The night also featured live music from local musicians.

A few bars and restaurants that will stay open until 2 a.m. are also featuring work from some of our local artists.
