A dispute between neighbors turned violent in West Tulsa County Monday evening.

The Tulsa County Sheriff's Office said deputies responded to a disturbance call to the 5400 block of  South 65th West Avenue, around 6:20 p.m.

When they arrived, deputies said the shooter, identified as 36-year-old James Sawyer was yelling at them, "I shot him, we are over here."

Deputies located Sawyer and the victim about 100 feet off the road.  The victim was lying on the ground with a shotgun wound to his hip.

One deputy arrested Sawyer while the other put pressure near the wound to help slow the bleeding.

Deputies said the two men are neighbors.

According to jail records, Sawyer told deputies, the victim had been stealing scrap from a wooded area behind his home.  Sawyer stated after shooting the victim with a shotgun, he hit the victim in the head with the butt of the shotgun.

The shotgun was recovered.

Sawyer was booked into the Tulsa County jail on complaints of shooting with intent to kill and assault and battery with a deadly weapon.
