Tulsa returns home to host Utah Valley on Thursday, Nov. 29th beginning at 7 p.m. at the Donald W. Reynolds Center. The Golden Hurricane will be looking for its first win of the season, after starting the year with an 0-5 mark.
TU and UVU met last year for the first time, when the Wolverines earned a 78-62 win in Orem, Utah.
For Tulsa
Taleya Mayberry is posting a team-leading 21.6 points per game and 17 assists, while Tiffani Couisnard also earns double figures with 10.8 ppg, and has team-bests of 9.6 rebounds, nine steals and six blocks. Kelsee Grovey adds 9.0 ppg, 3.0 rpg, and has nine assists and five steals, and Ashley Clark and Loren McDaniel both post 7.0 ppg.
Scouting the Wolverines
Utah Valley has a 1-5 mark this season, including a win over Utah State in just the second game of the year. The Wolverines are led by Sammie Jensen who averages a double-double with 19.0 points per game and 14.3 rebounds per game, while tallying seven blocks and seven steals. Kaycee Mansfield also nets double figures with 10.3 ppg, while Alle Cardwell has a team-best 26 assists and Whitney Jenkins has a team-high 10 steals.
Last Time Out
Tulsa dropped an 82-75 decision to Illinois and a 75-74 mark to Loyola Marymount in the Junkanoo Jam, which was played last weekend in Freeport, Bahamas. Taleya Mayberry tied her personal-best of 30 points and Kelsee Grovey earned a personal-best of 17 points against the Fighting Illini. The Golden Hurricane had three players post double-digit points in both contests.
Mayberry Scoring Force
Taleya Mayberry has scored in double digits in 61 of 86 career contests, amassing 1,234 points for a 14.3 ppg average. Of her 61 double-figure games she has scored more than 20 points in 22 games and 30 points twice.
Mayberry is only the eighth women's basketball player in school history to score 1,000 career points, and is currently in fifth-place on the all-time scoring chart.
Moving Up
Taleya Mayberry and Tiffani Couisnard are moving up in the Tulsa Career Leaders chart. Mayberry is now fourth in steals (198), fifth in assists (274) and sixth in three-point field goals made (121), while Couisnard ranks 10th with 51 blocks.
On the Bench
The Golden Hurricane team returns seven letterwinners, including three starters, and welcomes four newcomers. The roster features seniors Tiffani Couisnard, Taleya Mayberry and Jessica McQuin; junior Loren McDaniel; sophomores Kadan Brady, Amber Fleet and Mariah Turner; and freshmen Ashley Clark, Kelsee Grovey, Jasmine Vasquez and Antoinet Webster.
Mayberry Named to C-USA Women's Basketball Preseason Team
Tulsa senior Taleya Mayberry was named to the Conference USA Women's Basketball Preseason Team, as announced by the league office. Mayberry was a first-team All-Conference USA performer a year ago.
