The Salvation Army planned to serve up to a thousand turkey dinners Thursday at its Center of Hope in downtown Tulsa, helping to brighten the Thanksgiving holiday for the homeless or families on hard times.
"It's just a real joy to be able to greet people as they come in the door and wish 'em a Happy Thanksgiving and just see the sparkle in their eyes as they're told you're gonna come in and have a seat and we're serving you today, and just to do something special for 'em," said Major Jim Taylor.
The organization said so many volunteers wanted to help serve Thanksgiving dinner this year, they had to turn some away and asked for their help at Christmas instead.
