The OSU Medical Center in Tulsa was under lockdown for about three and half hours, as police officers searched for a man who attempted an armed robbery inside the hospital early Saturday morning.
According to police, at about 2 a.m. Saturday, a man armed with a revolver somehow entered the hospital, located at 744 West 9th Street. Police say the man came up to a technician in the sleep center area and demanded drugs.
The technician told the gunman they did not have any drugs, that's when the suspect hit the technician with the revolver. Police say the technician suffered some small cuts.
Officers say the gunman then ran away from the scene. Hospital security was notified of the incident, placed the hospital on lockdown and called police.
"The key areas were locked down immediately - labor and delivery, the emergency room, surgery, ICU was all locked down," TPD Cpl. Dan Miller said.
The suspect is described as a white man between 35 and 40 years old. He stands 5-feet-10 and weighs about 150 to 160 pounds. Police saif he was last seen wearing a blue or black sweatshirt and blue jeans.
About 40 officers and deputies searched the building until about 5:30 a.m. Saturday. At this time, police are still looking for the suspect.
"People within the hospital were out on a smoke break, saw the guy matching the description walking over here by Southwest Blouvard right past them, said some derogatory things to them and took off running," Miller said.
