As you can see from the first map on the right, some locations have received an inch or so of rain as of early this morning and the more eastern counties will be getting at least some of that during the day today. Not a drought breaker by any stretch, but certainly welcome and will provide some brief relief from the fire danger and dusty conditions of the last few days. Any threat of severe storms will be confined to the more SE counties this afternoon and the showers/storms will be ending from W-E as the day wears on.

The second map on the right shows the 24 hour temperature change as of early this morning and it is quite obvious that much cooler is spilling back over the state. For example, here in Tulsa we started the morning at 70, then dropped to 52 a couple of hours later. Look for temperatures to pretty much stay in the 40s for the rest of the day along with brisk northerly winds making it feel even cooler. As mentioned, that cooler air is headed southward so we will all feel the effects of the cool down today.

The strong cold front that brought the showers/storms and the cooler air will quickly push on southward followed by clearing skies later this afternoon or this evening. With clear skies for the overnight hours along with light winds by morning, that adds up to a cold night tonight with temperatures dropping into the 20s to start the day Monday. Monday afternoon will be pleasant although quite cool with light SW winds, lots of sunshine, and an afternoon high in the lower 50s which is about 10 degrees below normal.

After that, the rest of the coming week looks pretty quiet. Mostly sunny skies will be the general rule along with light southerly winds. Temperatures will be cold at night with below freezing temperatures again Tuesday morning followed by a gradual moderation as the week wears on. Daytime temperatures will be running near normal with daytime highs generally in the low-mid 60s by later in the week.

As far as out next chance of rain is concerned, it still looks like we could have some showers along about late Saturday or into the day Sunday of this coming weekend. Right now, this does not appear to be a very strong system and the longer range guidance is not overly aggressive in bringing much rain our way. So, will maintain a slight chance of a shower for that time frame.

In the meantime, stay tuned and check back for updates.
