Oral Roberts University took the opening set from Stephen F. Austin but could not close the Ladyjacks out, falling by a 3-1 count on Thursday night at the Kenneth H. Cooper Aerobics Center. With the loss, the Golden Eagles (14-14, 10-7 Southland Conference) fall out of a tie for 4th place in the SLC standings.
The Ladyjacks (21-10, 11-7 SLC) won by scores of 14-25, 25-20, 25-22 and 29-27.
Joana Gruber paced the Golden Eagle effort with 15 kills, nine digs and seven total blocks, including one solo effort. Sheina Fernandes, Sadie Schaffner and Tatum Fredeen each added 10 kills, while Fernandes added nine total blocks (two solo).
Bruna Silva led the defensive effort for ORU, with 17 digs. The Golden Eagles hit .355 in the opening set but just .207 for the match.
ORU closes out the regular season on Saturday, November 10, when they host Northwestern State. Match time is set for 3 pm.
