Oklahoma Gov. Mary Fallin is honored for her work to help feed Oklahoma's hungry.
Fallin received the Sara J. Waggoner Hunger Awareness Award, which recognizes those who bring attention to hunger and food insecurity.
She accepted the honor at today's Hunger Heroes luncheon in Tulsa. Our Terry Hood served as host.
Fallin has been holding "Feed Oklahoma" food and fund drives since taking office.
Despite Oklahoma's thriving economy and low unemployment rate, Oklahoma is the fifth hungriest state in the country, Fallin said.
"We do have some that struggle with food insecurity, and that's what we're trying to do today, is raise awareness, raise some money for those that are hungry in Oklahoma," Fallin said.
Fallin's third annual Feeding Oklahoma Food and Fund Drive runs through Nov. 15.
This year's goal is to raise enough food and money to provide 1.2 million meals to Oklahomans in need.
Last year, the drive exceeded its 1 million meals goal.
