A Tulsa police officer was injured in a collision with a man apparently driving under the influence of alcohol.
The officer had stopped at the traffic signal on northbound Lewis at Admiral Boulevard at 3:40 a.m. Sunday. A gray Jeep was southbound on Lewis and also stopped for the light. When the light turned green, the police officer started to go forward.
"As the officer was in the intersection, the subject suddenly turned and struck the officer's patrol car," said Sergeant Steve Stoltz with the Tulsa Police Department.
The driver of the Jeep told police he didn't see the patrol car when he turned left to go east on Admiral Boulevard. Stoltz said the man, identified as Arturo Munoz of Tulsa, smelled of an alcoholic beverage and had slightly slurred speech.
The officer complained of neck pain. She was taken to be checked out at a Tulsa hospital. The other driver was taken downtown to booking, Stoltz said.
"There was an open beer bottle inside the vehicle in the center console of the Jeep," he said.
Munoz, 27, was booked on complaints of driving under the influence of alcohol, driving without a license or proof of insurance and failure to yield. He was being held at Tulsa Jail for Immigration Customs Enforcement.
