The state honored a north Tulsa family known for their hard work and dedication to the community Saturday.
A section of Highway 75 between I-244 and 56th Street North was renamed the "Chappelle Family Memorial Highway."
"It's phenomenal, it's phenomenal. I'm still trying to get used to it," said Carlos Chappelle.
Senator Judy Eason McIntyre and Representative Jabar Shumate were there for the unveiling.
It was held at the Morning Star Baptist Church, where Doctor "T" Oscar Chappelle, Sr. served as pastor for nearly 50 years.
His wife, Elizabeth, taught public school for more than four decades.
Together, they were involved in a number of charities and were extremely instrumental in north Tulsa's economic development, helping found the first church-owned credit union in Oklahoma.
The family is still very active in the community today.
