Tulsa senior Taleya Mayberry was named to the Conference USA Women's Basketball Preseason Team. Meanwhile, the Golden Hurricane were picked to finish sixth in C-USA, as voted on by the league's coaches.
"I think us moving from 11th to sixth is an indication of the improvement we've made over the past year and it is a good starting point going into the season," Head Coach Matilda Mossman said. "Now our goal, just as last year, is to be better than that. I am also very pleased for Taleya. From the standpoint that she was an all-conference honoree last year, it is totally expected that she was named to the preseason team. I am not sure if there is anyone more deserving with all that she has given to our program over the last three years."
Tulsa native guard Mayberry is a three-year starter who averages 13.9 points and 3.3 rebounds per game. She has one double-double, 56 double-digit scoring games and one double-figure assist contest in her career, while leading Tulsa in scoring in 39 games, assists 47 times and steals 36 times. Mayberry was a first-team all-C-USA honoree last year while racking up 14.7 points and 3.7 rebounds per game.
The Golden Hurricane earned 13 wins, including eight league victories, and finished sixth in C-USA a year ago. Tulsa returns seven letterwinners, including three starters, and welcomes four newcomers to the roster.
