A young male osprey rescued Thursday morning from the steeple of a Stillwater church after its wing became impaled did not survive the ordeal.
Lost Creek United Methodist Church pastor Max Rudd says two Stillwater firefighters climbed up a ladder truck to free the bird and bring it down to safety.
The steeple spire is located more than 90 feet above the church building, according to Rudd.
Workers from Eagle Rescue in Perkins then took the osprey to be checked out and receive medical attention.
It reported that the osprey died.
Rudd thanked Eagle Rescue, the Iowa Tribe, Central Rural Electric Cooperative and the Stillwater Fire Department for coming to the bird's rescue.
