A key court hearing for American Airlines' parent company is scheduled Tuesday. AMR will ask a bankruptcy judge in New York City to grant a revised request to throw out its pilots' contract.

Pilots rejected a final labor proposal in August.

AMR is making a second try at getting the Allied Pilots Association's contract thrown out.

American is trying to cut costs as the airline works to reduce labor expenses.

In August, the pilots' union said it would hold a strike-authorization vote if American tried to use the bankruptcy process to throw out the pilots' contract.

AMR posted a net profit for the second consecutive month in July.
