The Oklahoma Highway Patrol said a 75-year-old Claremore man is in critical condition after his motorcycle was rear-ended by a driver who said he mistakenly hit the gas instead of the brakes.

Laverne Webb was transported to a Tulsa hospital with head and trunk internal injuries, an OHP report said.

The collision occurred just before 9 a.m. on Sunday near County Road 380 and County Road 412 in Rogers County.

Thomas Boone, 76, of Bixby, told troopers that when he saw traffic stopped, he prepared to slow his 2012 Dodge pickup and meant to apply pressure to the brakes, but he hit the accelerator, OHP said.

Boone struck Webb's motorcycle from behind, and Webb struck a pickup, driven by 32-year-old Jeremy Colvard of Claremore, the report said.

Colvard had three passengers -- Jennifer Colvard, 33, and two 7-year-old boys – none of whom were injured.

Boone's passenger, Carolyn Henderson, 70, of Tulsa, was not injured in the crash.

According to OHP, all occupants in both trucks were wearing seat belts, and Webb was wearing a helmet.
