An Owasso man was arrested Wednesday after police say he and his children went joyriding in golf carts at an Owasso golf course.
Dustin Samuel Proffitt, 34, was booked into Tulsa County Jail for driving under the influence of alcohol, contributing to the delinquency of minors, child endangerment, second degree burglary, and three counts of unauthorized use of a vehicle.
Owasso police received a noise complaint in the 14000 block of East 83rd Street North at about 1:30 a.m. July 4. They were told there were several people on The Greens golf course driving golf carts and being loud. Police say they found Proffitt and two young girls driving three golf carts across the greens.
A young boy was a passenger in Proffitt's golf cart, according to the report.
"As I was giving commands to stop, I heard the young boy say, 'It's the police,' and heard the adult male say 'I don't care,'" the arrest report states.
The officer questioned Dustin Proffitt who said he had been walking by the golf course clubhouse with his children and noticed that the golf carts were left outside. They decided to go "joyriding," according to the report.
Proffitt smelled of alcohol and had slow, slurred speech, the officer said. There was an unopened beer can in the cup holder of one of the golf carts, and one of the carts had been crashed into a bridge on the property.
Another officer contacted The Greens golf course manager who said he was certain the carts had been left inside a storage facility after a fireworks show, and that Proffitt did not have permission to use them. The manager said he had locked the storage building, and that they did want to pursue charges.
The arresting officer took Proffitt into custody. He had a blood alcohol content of .15 percent, according to the report. The legal limit in Oklahoma is .08 percent.
