Broken Arrow Police Department's canine cops have some extra protection tonight.
The city's Lions Club spent a year raising enough money to buy four bulletproof vests for the dogs on the force.
The department's old doggie vests expired two years ago.
They could be lifesavers when the canines are sent on dangerous missions, tracking suspects, or helping officers serve warrants.
"It really will help us do our duties and perform our jobs a lot more... a lot safer environment," said Sergeant Pat DuFriend, the BAPD K9 Supervisor.
The vests are tough enough to withstand most bullets and take multiple hits.
