A Broken Arrow Police K9 officer helped his partner make an arrest in a Reasor's Grocery store parking lot Friday night. The officers arrested a convicted felon in possession of a firearm and precursors to manufacturing methamphetamine.

Officer A. LaCroix was patrolling with his partner, Maverick, just before midnight when he spotted two vehicles parked in the middle of the Reasor's parking lot at 1100 East Kenosha Street.

Two men were outside the cars talking.

"The parking lot had several spaces open close to the front doors of the business, so it didn't appear that they were there to shop," LaCroix said in an arrest report.

A record's check showed that one of the vehicles, a Cadillac Escalade SUV, was registered to convicted felon James Marc Steed. Steed was arrested in Tulsa County for distribution of a controlled substance in 2000.

Maverick alerted on the car by scratching at the front driver and passenger doors, LaCroix said.

A search of the SUV revealed a 40-caliber Smith & Wesson handgun and about 22 blister packs of pseudoephedrine, according to the arrest report. Steed was booked into Tulsa County Jail on complaints of possession of a firearm and possession of precursors, both after conviction of a felony.

Steed, a 51-year-old Tulsa resident, is being held on a $40,000 bond.
