The Oral Roberts Golden Eagles were eliminated from the NCAA Tournament Sunday by the Baylor Bears, falling 5-2 to end their 2012 season in disappointing fashion.
Oral Roberts jumped out to an early 1-0 advantage, thanks to a two-out RBI single from Jose Trevino, scoring Logan Domenico in the bottom of the first inning. However, that would be the only time the Golden Eagles would take a lead in the game.
Baylor responded in the top of the third, advancing runners in four consecutive at-bats.
Jake Miller hit a leadoff double, Adam Toth reached on a sacrifice bunt attempt and Nathan Ore reached on a fielder's choice, with Miller out at third, but putting two on base. Logan Vick singled in the next at-bat, scoring Orf and Toth, taking a 2-1 advantage in the third.
The Bears added two runs of insurance in the top of the seventh, with Miller scoring on a fielder's choice and Vick scoring on a double to take a 4-1 advantage. Jared Schlehuber scored on a wild pitch in the bottom half of the inning, but a Cal Towey sacrifice fly in the top of the eighth put Baylor in front 5-2.
Tyler Bremer picked up a win for his outing with the Bears, giving up two earned runs on five hits and striking out five in six innings of service. Alex Gonzalez was credited with a loss, allowing four earned runs on eight hits in 6.2 innings pitched.
Oral Roberts finishes the season with a 38-25 record, after claiming both the Summit League regular-season and tournament titles.
