Troopers will be focusing a lot on kids on the water this summer. They're asking parents to check their kids' life jackets to make sure they fit before they get to the lake or river.
They say its too late to find out a child has outgrown a life jacket when you're ready to climb on the boat. Troopers will be looking closely to make sure the kids are wearing jackets, for an extra reason.
"If a state trooper or corps ranger sees a child under the age of 13 wearing their life jacket in a boat or on a swim beach, we're going to give them a ticket," Trooper Tony Richardson said. "But this time the ticket is good – it's for a free Frosty at Wendy's."
Troopers will also be checking to make sure everyone driving a boat or personal watercraft, between the ages of 12 and 16, has an operators permit.
