Shock's Late Game Rally Comes Up Short Against Phoenix

The Tulsa Shock put together a thrilling late game rally that fell just short in an 89-87 loss to the Phoenix Mercury.

Tulsa's Ivory Latta and Temeka Johnson both netted 16 points each, while Jennifer Lacy contributed 11 on the night.

After leading by two at halftime, Tulsa found itself down by eight with just over five minutes to play. A 7-0 spurt by the Shock quickly cut Phoenix' lead in half by the three minute mark.

Tulsa took the one point lead on Glory Johnson's two free throws with 1:26 remaining.

Phoenix's Charde Houston hit a pair of free throws to put the Mercury ahead 87-86, before Tulsa's Scholanda Dorrell made a free to tie it at 87 with 55.8 seconds left.

Following a miss by Houston, Dupree grabbed the offensive rebound and Prahalis was fouled on the possession. She hit both free throws to give Phoenix an 89-87 lead.

Tulsa pushed the ball down court but its final shot at the buzzer had to be reviewed and did not count leaving the Shock two points short of its first win of the season.

Diana Taurasi started, but played only 10 minutes as she is still recovering from a strained left hip flexor. She scored three points. DeWanna Bonner had 16 points for Phoenix who moves to 1-1 on the year.

Tulsa is now 0-2 to start the season and will be back on the court to face Washington on the road Saturday at 6 p.m.
