The map on the right shows the 24 hour rainfall totals from the OK Mesonet and also area radar estimated rainfall. Notice that some locations have received more than 3 inches of rainfall and more rain is on the way. The system responsible for this unsettled weather is located in NE New Mexico and will be gradually wobbling on eastward across the state on Wednesday and finally on east of us Thursday.
That will keep us with a good chance of showers and some embedded locally heavy storms through Wednesday and Wednesday night followed by improving conditions for Thursday. The mostly cloudy skies together with the shower activity will also keep temperatures a bit milder but our daytime highs will still be above normal.
Our winds will be shifting to a more W to SW direction Wednesday followed by northerly winds for Thursday and to start the day Friday.
Thursday may see a few early morning showers for the extreme E or NE counties followed by clearing skies and Friday still looks like the best day of the week. We should have lots of sunshine and after a clear, cool start look for our winds to return to the SE by afternoon and a nice rebound in temperatures.
The weekend will see another system moving into the state with a frontal boundary arriving late Saturday and stalling out along the Red River for Easter Sunday. That will keep temperatures on the mild side compared to where we have been and also keep at least a slight chance of showers and possibly some thunder for Saturday and for the more southern counties on Sunday.
In the meantime, stay tuned and check back for updates.
