The drawing for the biggest lottery jackpot in history takes place Friday at 10 p.m. The Mega Millions jackpot is up to an estimated $640 million.
It's a potentially huge payday, but the odds of winning it are out of this world.
Mega Millions says the odds of winning is one in about 176 million. But with such a huge jackpot, a lot of Oklahomans are probably going to take your chances anyway.
We've poured over several reports and articles, and found some pretty astronomical odds.
For example, you are 500 times more likely to be struck by lightning and 30 times more likely to killed by it, than to win Friday night's Mega Millions jackpot. You are also more likely to become President of the United States, or a professional athlete.
And space.com says you are thousands of times more likely to be killed in an asteroid collision in the year 2029, than to win Mega Millions.
In Mega Millions, the first five numbers drawn range from one to 56 and the Mega Ball is drawn from a set numbered 1-46.
Mathematicians say, because lotto numbers are drawn from the same set of numbers, your chances of winning the Mega Millions don't change, no matter the size of the jackpot or which numbers you pick.
The cash payout, if you win is $390-million.
The Bespoke Investment Group recently did a study of 700 previous Mega Millions drawings, and the numbers that came up the most often and here's what they found.
So if you want to get your Mega Millions ticket, you must do so before 9:45 p.m. Cost per ticket is $1.
