Court Sets Next Date For Two Former Bartlesville Police Officers

Two former Bartlesville police officers are scheduled back in a Washington County courtroom on August 1, 2012.

The pair, Stacy Neafus, 42 and Sonya Worthington, 44, are both charged with assault and battery from a September 2011 incident in the emergency room of a Bartlesville hospital.

Both were fired as police officers January 15, 2012 following the release of an investigation by the Washington County District Attorney's Office.

According to court records, Neafus and Worthington were dispatched to the Jane Phillips Medical Center after a patient became combative. A witness told Bartlesville Police both officers assaulted the patient while he was handcuffed.

Those records state Officer Stacy Neafus pushed the man "over a metal chair arm with the weight of the defendant" pressing on the man's chest while the man "was handcuffed, with force and violence."

The court records state officer Sonya Worthington struck and placed the man in a headlock, "pulling and twisting his head," while he was handcuffed "with force and violence."

Both Neafus and Worthington have entered not guilty pleas in court.
