A family escaped a fire but lost their pets Tuesday morning in Tulsa. It happened in the 2800 block of East 44th Place North.

Tulsa firefighters responded to the call just before 9 a.m. to find heavy smoke and fire. They got the fire under control in about 20 minutes, according to Tulsa Fire Captain Kofi Wallace.

"EMSA treated and released one patient on scene," Wallace said. "Two others were not injured."

The family was alerted by smoke detectors. Their two dogs and two cats died of smoke inhalation.

Investigators were working to determine the cause of the fire. Wallace said it is standard procedure to call in investigators to official determine a cause, especially when there is so much smoke and fire damage.
