Tulsa police say a 95-year-old man was robbed Tuesday morning as he made his way outside the Corner Café at 11th and Peoria. Now a senior care organization has donated a $500 reward for information leading to the capture of the robber.
The elderly victim was using his walker to leave the café at about 6:30 a.m. when he was mugged.
"The suspect came up from behind him, started shaking him and asked if he needed some help, then reached into his pants pocket and took his billfold," said Sergeant Gary Otterstrom with the Tulsa Police Department.
The suspect helped himself to the elderly man's ID and money, then ran away.
Otterstrom said the restaurant customer did not appear to be injured.
"Just frustrated and a little bit aggravated that somebody would take advantage of an elderly person like that," he said.
Police are investigating and hope they can find someone who witnessed the crime. The victim could only tell them that the man was tall and wearing a dark hoodie.
An Oklahoma senior care group has added $500 to the Crime Stoppers reward fund for information leading to the capture of the suspect in this case.
A representative of Visiting Angels of Green Country said they were so appalled at the crime that they felt moved to donate.
If you think you may have seen the suspect or know something about the crime, call Crime Stoppers at 918-596-COPS.
