McLain High School has a new football coach in former assistant Jarvis Payne Sr.
Payne has been an assistant for the Titans since 2003.
"Jarvis Payne is a great fit for the McLain Head Football coaching position," said Gil Cloud, interim Tulsa Public Schools athletic director. "He will build on the solid foundation that was set by our former head coach, Dan Bitson. Coach Payne is an outstanding educator and will have a positive impact on his student athletes."
Since 2009, Payne has served as an assistant coach to the varsity squad as well as been the head coach for the junior varsity team. He was the head football coach at the former Monroe Middle School where he earned two undefeated seasons.
Payne is a graduate of Tulsa Public Schools where he attended Penn Elementary, Monroe Junior High and Booker T. Washington High School. At Booker T., he played with the 1984 Class 5A state champion Hornets football team. He has a bachelor of science from Langston University.
