The Tulsa Golden Hurricane women's basketball team jumped out to a massive lead early on Thursday and cruised to a 77-48 lead over the Houston Cougars, to grab their third conference win of the season.
Taylor Hooker hit a jumper less than three minutes into the game, allowing Tulsa to take a 6-5 advantage. That was the last time the lead would change. Hooker's jumper was the first two of a 19-0 run that spanned the next five minutes to take a 23-5 advantage less than halfway through the opening 20 minutes.
The Golden Hurricane continued to pour it on, taking a 33-11 advantage with less than eight minutes to play in the first half, but the offense dried up for TU in the final minutes of the half.
Houston scored the next 15 points to close the half, save for a buzzer-beating three pointer by Taleya Mayberry, to cut the lead to 36-26 heading into the locker room.
The second half wasn't as kind to the Cougars, with the Golden Hurricane outscoring them 41-22 in the closing 20 minutes, cruising to a victory.
Tiffani Cousinard led the charge for the Golden Hurricane, shooting nine-of-14 on her way to a double-double, scoring a game-high 20 points and grabbing 13 boards. Hooker was also hot from the floor, hitting seven of her 13 from the floor, scoring 14 points.
Amanda Lawson finished with a team-high 15 points and five rebounds, but also turned the ball over five times. The only other Cougar player to score in double-figures was senior guard, turning in 10 points in the loss.
Tulsa will take three days off before its next dame, taking on the Tulane Green Wave at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Reynolds Center.
