New Sand Springs Elementary School Opens Early

The doors opened this week for Sand Springs' newest elementary school, Northwoods Fine Arts Academy.

The school was slated to open in August, but the construction project was completed ahead of schedule and principal Jenny Chambers says the school is now filled with 470 kindergarten through 2nd graders.

"It's a big step for our community, and I'm so proud for the kids to have this building and this wonderful setting for years to come," said Jenny Chambers, Principal at Northwoods Academy.

The new school replaces Central Fine Arts Academy.

Northwoods was a part of the school district's 2009 bond issue and cost almost $14 million.

The new school has enhanced electronic and technical systems including Smart Boards in every classroom.

It is located at 1691 East Old North Road in Sand Springs.
