Starting Tuesday, January 3, 2012, the city of Broken Arrow will begin a street widening project that will take almost 8 months to complete.
Elm Place from Kenosha or 71st to Houston or 81st will be widened from the current four lanes to five lanes of travel.
Broken Arrow city officials say because of the construction, Elm Place will be reduced from the current two lanes of travel each direction to only one lane per direction with a dedicated left turn lane.
Drivers will see the speed limit reduced to 25 mph in the construction zone.
As one of Broken Arrow's major arterial streets, officials say Elm Place carries a high volume of traffic, more than 25,000 vehicles per day.
Broken Arrow Police encourage drivers to avoid Elm Place during the construction.
Broken Arrow Police say they'll actively enforce the speed limit during the construction period.
