Family Remembers Glenpool Murder Victim

A family is struggling to give peace to a murder victim and his family.

David Grummert was murdered in his home in Glenpool on December 15th, but his body remains at the ME's office because the families don't have the money for his final arrangements. Mostly, they want his sons to be able to properly say goodbye.

"This is his dad," said Judy Kennemer, David's former mother-in-law.

David Grummert married Judy's daughter and they had two sons, Jacob and Josh. There were many good times: going to Bell's Amusement park, building snowmen.

David even liked to race stock cars. His number 33 is the number his youngest son now wears on his basketball jersey.

"David was proud of his two boys for choosing a different way of life, for choosing to be good," Judy said.

David made some bad choices, got mixed up with drugs and spent time in prison. He was released in 2010, got a job at a grocery store, began paying child support and getting to know his boys again.

Judy said he was really trying to do better.

"He had the softest heart," she said. "If someone was down and out, David didn't have much financially, he struggled, but if somebody was down and out, he'd give what he had."

But, on December 15th, Terencio Turcios shot and killed his ex-wife Victoria in Tulsa, then drove to Glenpool and murdered David, and later killed himself. David worked with Victoria and they had dated a few times last fall.

The family wants to have a memorial service, but doesn't have the money.

"They haven't really gotten to say goodbye to him, so this is like a bad dream. Jacob said it's like a nightmare. It just doesn't seem real to him yet," Judy said.

She believes a proper goodbye is critical for the boys, now 14 and 16, to begin to heal and then, move forward in life. She says it's just a shocking experience for all three families affected by this terrible situation.

"I never thought this type of tragedy would happen in my family," Judy said. "You don't. You see it on the news every day, every day; just think it's somebody else."

Another family who went through a murder tragedy a few years ago set up a fund at the IBC branch in Sand Springs in Judy's name to help pay for David's final expenses.

Judy says if there is any money left over after the cremation and service, it will go into a college fund for David's sons.
