Tulsa County's investment to become more energy efficient is paying off.
On Thursday, Public Service Company of Oklahoma gave the county an incentive check for nearly $150,000 for switching the more than 500 light fixtures at Expo Square to more efficient models.
Crews have been replacing the lights over the last couple of months, at a cost of about $420,000.
The new lights will light up quicker, last longer and not generate as much heat, which will mean lower cooling costs.
County commissioners say the lights will also have a more even color and will be quieter.
The last time the lights had been replaced was in the early 90s.
