Last week, the Tulsa SPCA and the Central Oklahoma Humane Society rescued 64 small breed dogs at a puppy mill.
The Tulsa SPCA brought back 34 small dogs; plus a Chihuahua nursing 6 puppies.
In a news release, the Tulsa SPCA says the breeder located in central Oklahoma had been cited for several infractions during a visit by inspectors from the newly created Office of Commercial Pet Breeders.
The SPCA says since this is an ongoing investigation, the name and location is being withheld.
SPCA officials say the breeds included Pomeranians, Dachshunds, Chihuahuas, Yorkshire Terriers, Malteses and Shih Tzus. A preliminary check of the pets revealed the need for assessment of a number of health issues.
Tulsa SPCA associate director Lori Hall says they are hoping that many of the dogs will be ready for adoption before Christmas later this week.
